The Butter Battle Book Questions:

a. Why do you think the Zooks and Yooks did not get along?
Because the Yooks liked their bread with the butter-side up, and the Zooks liked their bread with the butter-side down
b. What do you think caused this conflict to get worse?
They both didn't agree to disagree, they were too focused on the differences.
c. How do you think this happens with your friends or siblings?
Instead of agreeing with friends/siblings, sometimes we focus a lot on the differences we have, instead of just coming to a conclusion that will make peace with the differences.
d. What do you think the Zooks and Yooks could have done differently to prevent this conflict?
They could have just talked with each other, and created a plan to not let the butter affect their lives.
e. In the story, each side uses propaganda to make their side seem like the right side. Give some examples from themovie/book.
f. What does the story tell you about the Cold War?
This story tells us that that the Cold War was basically one big competition. Both sides were constantly competing with each other to have better weaponry and more advances. When it came to the brink of being a nuclear war, neither side could go through with it however.

g. What would be your ending to the story?

My ending to this story would be that the Zooks and the Yooks could just reach an agreement to respect eachother's ways of buttering

their bread. I think that if they both do this, can can live in peace and harmony together in the same place. With all th disagreements,

that is just a recipe for disaster and that is just calling for a war to occur between them, over something so simple as buttering their

bread.

Korean War

How did the Korean War turn into a Cold War Conflict?
It became a part of the cold war when Stalin sent supplies to the Korean area, also it created the idea of a proxy war, where the two superpowers would fight in another country
Why did the Korean War not lead to world war?
The U.S., nor its allies who supported South Korea, or communist china and soviet russia, who supported North Korea, wanted to escalate the war
beyond the Korean peninsula.
How does the Korean War shed light on the broad themes of the Cold War?

Opener: Based on Korean War Video:
  • Do you Believe the Korean War was a Civil War or a Proxy War ( war that results when opposing powers use third parties as substitutes for fighting each other directly)
I believe that the Korean War was a proxy war, because the U.S. was not fighting the Soviet Union face-to-face. They were using South Korea as a third-party substitute to fight North Korea which was the Soviets' Allies. U.S was allies with South Korea. North Koreans and China were armed/trained by Soviets. The USSR and the US had Nuclear weapons, so a face-to-face battle could've created a lot of damage and caused much harm.
  • Provide three pieces of evidence from the video to support your claim
- China is involved in sending troops and arms to the North Koreans.
- North Korea is given materials from the Soviets while South Korea was given materials from the U.S
- America spent the most money and sent the most troops
- Most of the troops that fought and died in the Korean war were American

Public Opinion Poll on Korea

1.) Korea worth-while? This is the most important point gained from the poll because this summarizes the effects of the Korean War in America and how Americans felt. Most people felt like the war was not worth-while, while some people believed it was. This shows how Americans weren't 100% at an agreement whether the Korean War was a War they benefitted from.
2.) Should U.S. take strong steps?
3.) Approve Signing?

Soviet-Afghanistan War

5 Observations about the map:
  • All the soviet invasion routes connect with one another.
  • Kabui is the center for the Soviets invasions.
  • Iraq, Pakistan, and the Soviet Union are all bordering Afghanistan.
  • Seemed to be a direct air route straight to Kabui.
  • The invasion routes of the Soviets were all their own territory.
